What are the levels in JLPT?

The JLPT compromises five-level i.e., N1, N2, N3, N4, N5. As a beginner, N5 is the most challenging and manageable level for you. They are valid for life, awarded, and valued worldwide.

N5

  • Developed for the beginners,
  • You are expected to learn:
  1. Hiragana,
  2. Katakana,
  3. 100 Kanji (Chinese characters) approx. and their reading and pronunciation,
  4. 700-800 Japanese words approx.,
  5. Basics of Japanese Grammar.

N4

  • Basic Level
  • You have to listen and comprehend conversation in the Japanese Language and follow the content. (spoken slowly)
  • Knowledge of 300 Kanji and 1500 Japanese words is required.

N3

  • Lower Intermediate level
  • You can read, listen, comprehend coherent conversations in everyday situations at a natural speed and can follow the content, after qualifying this level.
  • You are expected to learn 600 to 700 Kanji and approx. 3000 to 4000 Japanese.

N2

  • Intermediate Level
  • After attaining Level 2, you will have upper intermediate Japanese Conversational ability and addition in resume.
  • At around, 1000 Kanji and 6000 words are demanded at this level.

N1

  • Advanced Level
  • Level N1 is considered as the highest and most sophisticated level.
  • Once qualified, you are a Japanese expert, and proficiency resembles near-native.
  • Till this point, you have mastered 2000 to 2500 Kanji and more than 10,000 words.

2. JLPT  Exam Dates

  • JLPT is held twice a year (First Sunday of July and December)
  • An applicant needs to fill the examination form:
  1. Early March until late April for July’s examination,
  2. Early August until late September for December’s exam.

 

3. JLPT Exam Centre in India.

The exam is conducted in 85 countries and 249 cities across the Globe. There is a total of 8 Centre in India:

The test is held twice a year at each Centre, except at Salem and Santiniketan.

4. Examination Fees

  • The fee is payable through an online process through websites of respective Centre.
  • Cost around 1800 INR for each level.
